You see a drug advertisement on TV. Maybe
it's promoting depression, acid reflux, osteoporosis, anxiety or
incontinence Whatever it is it
sounds like something you may need. After all, millions of
Americans have that particular problem. The commercial said
so. And there is no way our government would allow them to lie
to us. We're talking about medicine here. And the FDA is
there to protect us. One of the reasons these pharmaceutical
ads can have such an effect on us is that we have a fundamental
level of trust for the medical profession. We would never
think that a doctor would recommend any but the best possible
treatment to us. Doctors have taken oaths.
But somehow
with all the power and the money of the pharmaceutical companies
doctors and patients alike are misled into prescribing and taking
medication that may not be well-researched or the best treatment for
the problem.
We should not have to worry
about the relationship between the FDA and the pharmaceutical
industry. We should not have to wonder whether the trial
results that proclaim a drug as safe and effective are true and
honest. We should not have to wonder whether our doctor's last
vacation was paid for by the company marketing the drug he or she is
now prescribing to us. But we do.
And with the
constantly increasing number of prescriptions being written
for addictive psychoactive drugs such as antidepressants,
stimulants, sedatives and anti-anxiety medications as well
as powerful opiate painkillers we need to be more aware of
the symptoms and signs of addiction and signs of overdose.

prescription drug the time to act is now! You can talk
